Starter WP, Inc. (“Starter WP,” “we,” “us,” or “Company”) provides a website optimization and intelligence platform. This Privacy Policy explains how we collect, use, and protect information when you use our services to audit, analyze, and optimize your website.
Key Distinction: We are an optimization service, not a hosting provider. We analyze your public website data and private analytics to provide intelligence. We do not host your website infrastructure.
1. Information We Collect
1.1 Information You Provide
Account Information:
When you sign up for Launch, Growth, or Performance tiers, we collect: Name, email address, company name, billing address, and website URL.
Payment Information:
We use Stripe (and/or Square) to process payments. We do not store full credit card numbers. We only retain a secure token to process recurring billing.
Site Access Credentials (Performance Tier):
For clients on the Performance Tier ("Done-For-You"), you may provide us with administrative login credentials (WordPress Admin, FTP, or DNS access) so we can implement optimizations. These are stored using industry-standard encryption and are only accessible by authorized implementation staff.
1.2 Service & Optimization Data
To provide our AI analysis and recommendations, we collect and process:
- Public Site Data: We scan your public website HTML, content, images, and structure to identify SEO gaps and conversion issues.
- Analytics Data: If you connect your Google Analytics or Matomo account, we fetch read-only data regarding traffic, bounce rates, and conversion goals.
- Competitor Data: We analyze the public websites of competitors you identify to provide benchmarking.
1.3 Automatically Collected Data (Our Website)
When you visit starterwp.com or log into our Dashboard:
- Usage Logs: Browser type, IP address, and pages visited within our app.
- Cookies: Session cookies to keep you logged in.
- Analytics: We use Matomo (privacy-friendly analytics) to see how users interact with our dashboard. We do NOT use Google Analytics on our own platform to protect your privacy.
2. How We Use Your Information
We use your data to:
- Generate Roadmaps: We feed your site content into our AI models to identify specific optimizations.
- Execute Changes: (Performance Tier) We use your credentials to log in and fix issues.
- Billing: To process your monthly or annual subscription.
- Communication: To send your Weekly Reports, Executive Briefs, and invoices.
3. AI & Third-Party Processing
This is core to our service. To generate "Weekly Recommendations," we transmit specific excerpts of your website content and performance metrics to third-party Artificial Intelligence providers.
Our AI Processors:
- OpenAI (GPT-4) & Anthropic (Claude): Used to analyze copy, suggest improvements, and audit code structure.
- Perplexity: Used for real-time competitor market research.
Data Safety Commitments:
- We do not allow these providers to use your data to train their public models.
- We strip personally identifiable information (PII) from data before sending it to AI whenever possible.
- We only send the data necessary to generate the specific recommendation.
4. Sharing Your Information
We do not sell your data. We share data only with:
- Service Providers: DigitalOcean (App Hosting), Stripe (Payments), Postmark/SendGrid (Transactional Email).
- Legal Compliance: If required by a subpoena or court order.
5. Data Security
We implement security measures designed to protect your data:
- Encryption: Data is encrypted in transit (TLS 1.2+) and at rest.
- Credential Storage: Passwords you provide for implementation are stored in an encrypted vault, not plain text.
- Access Control: Only employees who need to implement changes (Performance Tier) have access to your site credentials.
6. Data Retention
- Active Accounts: We retain optimization history and reports for the life of your account to show progress trends.
- Cancelled Accounts: If you cancel, we delete your stored site credentials (passwords) immediately. We retain billing records for 7 years for tax purposes.
7. Your Rights
Regardless of where you live, you have the right to:
- Access: Request a copy of the data we hold about you.
- Deletion: Request we delete your account and data (subject to legal billing retention requirements).
- Opt-Out: Unsubscribe from marketing emails (though you cannot unsubscribe from transactional billing/service alerts).

8. Children's Privacy
Our service is a B2B business tool. We do not knowingly collect data from children under 18.
9. Changes to Policy
We may update this policy. If we make material changes (e.g., sharing data with new types of third parties), we will notify you via email or a dashboard alert.
